Curse Tiers: What Tier 3 Really CostsThe House TD 2 · Updated 2026-08-27

What this page helps you decide: whether chasing a Tier 3 curse on your best unit is worth the grind, and which curse to chase

Rolling a curse is only the first step. Each curse also has tiers, and getting from Tier 1 to Tier 3 means locking what you have and rerolling at a higher token price per attempt. The rule is simple, but the cost that falls out of it is not obvious, so this page does the multiplication before you commit an evening to it.

How the tier system works

You roll until the curse you want appears, then lock it for 1,000 Coins. Locking is what lets you keep rerolling for a higher tier of that same curse instead of losing it to the next random result. Once Tier 2 appears you lock again and repeat for Tier 3. The price per roll rises with the tier you are chasing: one Voodoo Token for a Tier 1 roll, two for Tier 2 and three for Tier 3. That escalation is the part that decides whether a curse is worth chasing, because it applies to every failed attempt, not just the successful one.

What a rare curse actually costs at Tier 3

Take Nightmare, the rarest curse at 1% per roll. Reaching Tier 1 takes 100 rolls on average at one token each. If the tier upgrade uses similar odds, Tier 2 costs another hundred rolls at two tokens, and Tier 3 another hundred at three - so roughly 600 Voodoo Tokens plus 2,000 Coins in lock fees for one unit. Compare that with Brittle Bone at 18%, where the same journey averages about six rolls per stage and lands near 36 tokens. The gap between the rarest and the most common curse is not the twelve to one their drop rates suggest; compounded across three tiers it is closer to seventeen to one. Chasing the rarest curse to its top tier is a different category of commitment from chasing a common one.

The assumption we are making, and why it matters

The tier-up odds are not published. The figures above assume each tier reroll finds the curse at the same rate as the original roll, which is the most optimistic reasonable assumption. If the game makes higher tiers rarer, and most games do, every number here is a floor rather than an estimate. We are stating this openly because the difference matters: at the same odds a Tier 3 Nightmare is a long grind, while at half the odds it is roughly 1,200 tokens and stops being a sensible target for most players. Until someone publishes the tier rates, treat 600 tokens as the best case and plan for worse.

A cheaper order of operations

If you are going to chase a top-tier curse, the sequence matters more than the target. Lock in the best curse you can actually get first and put it on the unit you use most, because a Tier 1 curse working every run beats a Tier 3 curse you never finish. Use Auto Roll with Filters so failed attempts cost time rather than attention. And decide the target before you start rather than during: the escalating price per roll makes the sunk-cost trap unusually expensive here, since the tokens you already spent do not make the next roll any cheaper.

Step-by-Step

  1. Roll with 1 Voodoo Token until the curse you want appears.
  2. Lock it for 1,000 Coins so rerolls cannot replace it.
  3. Reroll at 2 tokens each until Tier 2 appears, then lock again.
  4. Reroll at 3 tokens each for Tier 3.
  5. Budget roughly 600 tokens for Nightmare at best case, about 36 for Brittle Bone.

Tips & Notes

  • A Tier 1 curse on the unit you play every run beats a Tier 3 curse you never finish paying for.

FAQ

How do you get a Tier 3 curse in The House TD 2?

Roll the curse you want, lock it for 1,000 Coins, then reroll at 2 tokens for Tier 2, lock again, and reroll at 3 tokens for Tier 3.

How much does it cost to lock a curse?

1,000 Coins per lock, so 2,000 Coins to go from Tier 1 through to Tier 3.

Is Tier 3 Nightmare worth grinding for?

It averages around 600 Voodoo Tokens at best case, and more if higher tiers are rarer. A Tier 1 curse on the unit you actually play is usually better value.
